Summary
Several Master's programs from the Faculty of Physics and Engineering allow students to pursue doctoral studies (PhD, typically 8 years of post-secondary education). This path can be followed within one of the laboratories associated with the Faculty of Physics and Engineering by applying to one of the two doctoral schools described below. Moreover, PhD students conducting their research in these laboratories may also take on teaching duties and participate in the faculty’s educational programs.
Doctoral School of Physics and Physical Chemistry
The Doctoral School of Physics and Physical Chemistry (co-accredited by Unistra and UHA) aims to provide research-based training in the areas of interest of its eight laboratories. The research topics cover a wide spectrum, aligned with the key scientific orientations that strengthen the Strasbourg scientific hub, ranging from subatomic physics to astrophysics, including condensed matter physics and its connections to nanosciences (properties of individual objects), functional materials (optics, magnetism, and spintronics), and mesoscopic physics. This doctoral school is highly multidisciplinary, combining the contributions of physics and chemistry at the interface with life sciences, such as in biomedical imaging, biomaterials, and polymer materials.

Doctoral School of Mathematics, Information Sciences, and Engineering Sciences | MSII
The Doctoral School of Mathematics, Information Sciences, and Engineering (co-accredited by Unistra, UHA, INSA, and ENGEES) aims to provide research-based training in the fields of mathematics, Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies (ICT), and Engineering Sciences (SPI). This includes electronics and photonics, mechanics and civil engineering, as well as image processing, signal processing, automation, robotics, and remote sensing.
