Short description :

You will learn key basic concepts of quantum electronic transport relevant for understanding electronic devices and sensors based on semiconductor and quantum materials. You will study how engineering quantum materials & structures at the nanoscale enables novel electronic properties for a wide variety of engineering applications. You will get skilled in anticipating the relationship between basic science and information technology applications.

Syllabus

  • Field Effect Transistors (MOSFET, Ballistic FET , diffusive regime, quantum wire FET)

  • Quantum currents & circuit elements (Quantum waveguide, Quantized conductance, Quantum currents, Quantum capacitance)

  • Quantum well & tunneling device (tunnel transport, tunnel junction, from quantum well to negative differential resistance…).

  • Single electron Quantum devices (Coulomb blockade, RC quantum model, single electron memory, single electron transistor)

  • Quantum magneto-transport in 2D electron gas (Landau levels, Edges modes and Quantum channels, Integer Quantum Hall effect)

  • Magneto-transport in Exotic Quantum Materials (Berry phase concept, Quantum Hall effect, Topological insulators, Quantum Anomalous Hall effect…)

  • Atomic clocks

  • Inertial sensors based on atom interferometry

  • Magnetometers based on color centers in diamond
