Polymer science
Master Sciences et génie des matériauxParcours Ingénierie des matériaux et nanosciences
Description
This polymer physics course provides a comprehensive introduction to the science of polymers. It first addresses the structure and classification of polymers, then explores issues related to molecular weight distribution and molecular architecture. Conformation concepts, such as end-to-end distance and radius of gyration, are introduced to understand polymer chain flexibility. The course also covers the thermodynamics of polymer mixtures with a focus on the Flory-Huggins theory. Finally, special attention is given to rubber elasticity, particularly through the elastic network theory, to illustrate the unique mechanical properties of polymers.
