Bases de physique statistique
Master PhysiqueParcours Radiation Physics, Detector, Instrumentation and Imaging
Description
This is a non-compulsory, non-evaluated course that revisits the basics of statistical mechanics covered in the third year at Strasbourg, which will be used from the start of the semester in the Statistical Physics course.
Syllabus
I-Systems in equilibrium: microstates and macrostates.
II-Time averages and ensemble averages. Thermodynamic functions.
III-The microcanonical ensemble. Equiprobability of microstates. Entropy, temperature, pressure and chemical potential of an isolated system.
IV-The canonical ensemble. Partition function and grand thermodynamic potential.
V-Perfect quantum gases: Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics.
